Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? - Juvenal

I came across this line in a book long before I knew who said it. I think it is fitting in this day and age, as it essentially means "Who will guard the guards?". Basically it is a line used today in regards to corruption of powerful figures or authority.

"Good tactics can save even the worst strategy. Bad tactics will destroy even the best strategy." General George S Patton
One of my favorite historical figures, and I think that this quote fits total war games very well :)

The Duke - my favorite saying because it is to the point and sums up nicely that one has to strive to think things out.

"A nation which does not remember where it was yesterday does not know where it is today." -General Robert E. Lee

I've always loved the American Civil War, and this is likely my favorite quote from either side.

My favorite quote is in my signature. It was from Alexander the Great and it is beautiful.
I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion.

Philip II of Macedon, who after invading southern Greece and receiving the submission of other key city-states, sent a message to Sparta:

You are advised to submit without further delay, for if I bring my army into your land, I will destroy your farms, slay your people, and raze your city.[3]

The Spartan ephors replied with a single word:

If.[4]

Subsequently, neither Philip nor his son Alexander the Great attempted to capture the city. Philip is also recorded as approaching Sparta on another (?) occasion and asking whether he should come as friend or foe; the reply was "Neither".[5]
