I'm curious to see if there is any correlation between favorite unit type and favorite map.

Favorite unit was onagers, although they were less useful on Rubicon where I preferred cavalry. My favorite map was Salernum. There were a good number of places to setup and you could be very secure with only 1 unit of protection. The tight corridors of the city kept enemies in groups while the tower in the middle would allow you to dominate that half of the map if your team was bold enough to assault it.

Indeed Indeed some of my most memorable moments were at that freaking tower. Also, more often than not; it came down to one player left on each side to determine the VICTORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bone tingling victory or defeat by a simple 100 points LOL. Even though I normally would take one spear and 2 cav OR 2 spear and one slinger. *__*

If I had to choose just one, Rubicon. Lots of elevation changes and wide open spaces. More importantly, the bases were fairly centered in the map, making it hard to "ninja capture" and thus ensuring that the teams had a legitimate chance to fight, then still have time to fall back and defend the base if necessary. It could be improved further as I think the asymmetry slightly favored the northern team, and Barbarians didn't have a lot of forests to fight in.

My favorite unit was bow cavalry, and not just because they were blatantly overpowered. They were versatile, even able to charge for some damage or melee in a pinch. Yet you had to be very careful as certain things could just insta-kill you. Medium/Heavy cavalry was a close second for their ability to get where they're needed in a hurry, and they could even take down spears or pikes with a little tactical imagination.

Yes, I agree they were blatantly OP for example I put max effort in surrounding and ambushing 3 tier 9 HA with my fully upgraded tier 8 barb cav and the HA still won the DAMN melee I kid you not. The opposing HA were clustered and I successfully surrounded the little turd from three sides at once and after my initial frenzy (I was sure of victory) they just started whooping my melee cav like they were just paper. Just say, that after that EVENT I never played barbarian CAV again. *__*

Rush heavy Hoplites up the middle on Rubicon.  More moments of awesome on that map. :-D

Alpis Graia is a close second.  Wasn't all that fun, but man was it beautiful.

Salernum for the city.  The streets benefited my playstyle most.

Sacred band of Thebes x2 with full speed gear and x1 Rhodian was so fun to play on the flanks of Alpis Graia. When scythian HA were top tier though in full armor you felt like a god against the lower tier range units while you'd just decimate them in one barrage.

I never got to try Alpis Graia or Gergovia, but they look like they could have been interesting. Thermopylae was my favorite map of all the others (followed closely by Salernum). I really enjoyed the different paths you could take depending on what kind of troops you decided to bring.

I usually went 1 archer, 1 melee, 1 cavalry unit with Alexander, but my favorite unit by far was the archer. Especially on Alpis Graia where the elevation damage with missles was immense.

That must have been crazy intense to try and manage. Best I could do effectively was 2 of the same type and 1 off.

Slingers here :p

I know they were weak most of the times, but i just enjoy sniping stuff. Long range is great :D
