Many of us were not included in the recent test. There is a separate section of the forums for those invited to comment on what they saw when playing on the 27th.

 

 

For all of the people not in the test, what aspects of TW:ARENA are most important to you? There are a lot of options in the poll, but I ran out of lines for answers. If you have one not on this list please select other and type a reply below.

I Think fun factor of the game should be added. Cause in the end I feel that's what it all comes down to.

While you are right that fun is a huge factor of any game, I think that is why most people would be playing in the first place and is a result of the game having the features you want most.

Game performance, unit balance, and team balance. There were also a lot of annoying nitpicks that needed to be addressed back in March, such as:

  • The "CPU" players that could appear on a team were sometimes severely out of hand. The game should never start with "CPU" players. It was even worse that CPU/disconnected players didn't contribute team points.
  • Certain units (especially ranged units and cavalry) behaved funny on corners and tight corridors. If you gave them a move order, they'd go in the wrong direction for a couple seconds, then turn around and go the right way.
  • Enemy units on cliff edges were a little too hard to deal with in melee. Charging them caused self-damage for "ramming" the cliff edge (take this out, please), but normally attacking them would sometimes result in your men attacking about 5 guys while the other 75 are still lobbing arrows at you. If anything, units on a cliff edge should have a big downgrade in melee defense, as they lose all benefits of being in a square formation and their movement is restricted.
  • Too many players would take 3 siege engines and quit at the slightest sign of trouble (on multiple occasions, I would reach them in time to save 2 or 3 of their units, but they had quit already.) Same goes for taking 3 ranged units.
  • Teams should have balance in terms of artillery and tiers. Same number of artillery, plus or minus 1. Total sum of tiers should be the same, plus or minus a few. None of this silliness of one team having all tier-10 units while the other is mostly 5's and 6's.
  • I don't mind differing numbers of ranged/melee/cavalry, but it's nice to force at least a little variety, like at minimum 2-3 ranged units on your 30-unit team, unless the opponents also have almost none of that unit type. I faced a team who had nearly 100% melee units once, and my ranged units prevented them from capturing our base for like 5 minutes straight.
  • For swordsmen you control, give a count of how many javelins they have remaining.
  • It's nice that you can control units who have lost their player, but control-by-democracy could sometimes spell big trouble. I tried to be a team player, but soon got fed up with other teammates ruining perfect charges or trying to make units go somewhere stupid (like away from a base in need of defense, or into an enemy horde when there's a minute left on the clock and our team leads by only 200 points.)

 

That's all I can think of right now.

I know for me it comes down to customization, unit diversity, and quick matchmaking.

 

I don't want to sit in a queue for 10+ minutes doing nothing, but if you let me customize my units appearance quite a bit while doing it, I may not mind. Shoot, some stupid little mini game would be nice as well (similar to what Fractured Space did during beta waiting for a queue).

Oh gosh, I had forgotten about that. It was so incredibly annoying. I kind of hope they add in an animation/debuff that makes it so that if you get attacked by melee while positioned on a cliff you get thrown off of it or quickly murdered.

Although, a tier 9 premium SPEAR unit for the barbs would be very unique if the game is anything like before. As far as progression goes you should HAVE to grind it is as simple as that; be it though if you chose a certain specialization you should be able to obtain progression quicker. Say, if you deviate from said specialization (try to be a Jack-of-all-trades) then you should be punished (progression-wise) for your lack of COMMITMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to be able to play with my friends in Europe so hopefully this will not be a problem. Also more commanders and units anything up till gunpowder took over the battlefield would be nice.

I was trying to keep the thread civil and not taunt people with things they will likely never have. It was more about personal priorities than Yes/No. Some of the features above are all but guaranteed while others we can only guess at.

At the moment, the plan is to not segregate by region, which will be nice.

Quick matchmaking - I don't have time to sit and wait for a game.  I'll take an unfair, poorly-balanced match to a long wait time.

Performance - Game.  Must.  Run.  Smoothly.  No hiccups.  No slowdowns.  No framerate drops.  Sacrifice whatever you need to; game performance trumps all.

Grouping with Friends - Grouping during Closed Alpha wasn't worth the effort; matchmaking failed after every third game.  Solo queue is too chaotic to rely upon to advance the metagame.  Plus I love the social aspect of the game.  I like meeting players, joking with them, playing matches with and against them, interacting with them.  Making that easier and reliable is imperative to me.
