I would have to say marriage because Arena isn't gonna feed you chicken noodle soup when you have the flu.

It be an interesting question to pose to the producers of "Ancient Weapons", and see if they'd do a show on Bow vs. Slings.

There was a series that used to come on History a man and his father went over ancient and medieval battles. They didn't make many because when the father died I guess the funding was cut or something but they were very intuitive and informational. Can't remember the name of it for the likes of me!

Well I just can't get past the whole "rock thrower" stigma. Just seems so primitive.. so for that silly reason, I never got into slingers.

Greek slingers used lead 'bullets' and were scary AF.

I loved slingers back then, will definity try them out once again. Artillery is always fun ofc. i think i´l play more with the barbs and less with rome, idk why everyone loved those rome troops..

Rome is a classic. :D

Well technically they all are. More people know about Rome than anything else in the game. Maybe Leonidas beats that because of 300, but in grade school we only really learned about Rome.

I don't like to grind out and play multiple classes, heroes, races, or even games in general.  I prefer to find the few things I like and do my best in that area.  So with that said I'll be teching toward the ranged units and artillery of my play style.  Then I'll casually level up melee units as time permits.

I'm going to try and do what I did before, but I definitely want to diversify into Greece and Barbarians a lot more. I spent 90% of my playtime as Rome in the original beta. I avoided pikeman like the devil and hated playing ranged units instead of artillery, cav or swordsmen. I am aiming for a good grasp of all units to some degree compared to my focus before.

I really miss my Rhodian slingers they ate tier X archers for breakfast and Cimmerian archers for a MID-DAY snack. *__*

#343 What was your favorite Map and Unit type from the previous beta?

Posted HybridDragon on 29 November 2016 - 10:01 PM

If I had to choose just one, Rubicon. Lots of elevation changes and wide open spaces. More importantly, the bases were fairly centered in the map, making it hard to "ninja capture" and thus ensuring that the teams had a legitimate chance to fight, then still have time to fall back and defend the base if necessary. It could be improved further as I think the asymmetry slightly favored the northern team, and Barbarians didn't have a lot of forests to fight in.

My favorite unit was bow cavalry, and not just because they were blatantly overpowered. They were versatile, even able to charge for some damage or melee in a pinch. Yet you had to be very careful as certain things could just insta-kill you. Medium/Heavy cavalry was a close second for their ability to get where they're needed in a hurry, and they could even take down spears or pikes with a little tactical imagination.
